Academic profile

Wang Ziyang, male, born in 1979 in Changchun, Jilin Province, earned his Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature from Beihua University (September 1999 – July 2003), Master of Arts in Chinese Linguistics and Philology under the supervision of Professor Zhao Ping'an at Beijing Normal University (September 2005 – July 2008), and Doctor of Philosophy in Chinese Linguistics and Philology under the guidance of Professor Huang Tianshu at Capital Normal University (September 2008 – January 2012). From July 2012 to July 2020, he taught at the Research Center for Oracle Bone Inscriptions, Capital Normal University, holding positions as Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor. Since August 2020, he has been Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at the Research and Conservation Center for Unearthed Texts, Tsinghua University. His research focuses on Oracle Bone Inscriptions and other ancient scripts, emphasizing the interpretation of oracle bone characters and Shang Dynasty historical studies based on philological analysis, with a methodological commitment to grounding interpretations in the original inscriptions to reconstruct and supplement historical narratives.
